There are good reasons Alera Group President Jim Blue and Executive Administrative Assistant Carla Pope are beaming in the photo illustrating this post. The 34th annual Alera Group Charity Golf Classic — an event founded by Jim’s father and organized by Carla with the help of multiple colleagues — had just raised more than $150,000 for multiple charities and provided 101 golfers with a fun-filled June 12 afternoon at renowned Woodland Golf Club in Newton, MA.

Hosted in support of local nonprofits — particularly organizations focused on children’s needs, healthcare, addiction and special-needs education — the Alera Group Charity Classic has raised well over $2 million in its three-plus decades. This year’s beneficiaries included Boston Health Care for the Homeless, Boston Medical Center, Bright Spirit Children’s Foundation, Community Health Resources, Hospice Center of Central PA and the Spencer Educational Foundation.

Forty-two Alera Group colleagues attended the 2023 Charity Classic, most as golfers participating with sponsors, others as volunteers staffing the event, some as non-golfers demonstrating support.

Jim summed up his appreciation after the event.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who took part in the Alera Group Charity Classic — our sponsor-partners, our Alera Group colleagues, our volunteers … everyone who made this great event possible,” he said. “I truly appreciate all the dedication, all the work that enables us to bring everyone together to enjoy each other’s company, have a few laughs and, most of all, help a lot of kids.”

Competition on the Woodland course gave Jim reason to smile as well. His foursome — which included Tim Graham, Corey Woodward and Clayton Scott — took first place in the gross-score division with a low total of 4-under par. The foursome of Joe Confrancesco, Joe Enright, Scott Kettig and Chris Roberts placed second in the gross-score division at 3-under, with Jay Curran, John Gaffney, Craig Madalena and Kelli Viera taking third at 2-under.

In the net-score division, teammates Mike Aramento, Jake Kaplan, Stuart Kaplan and Marc Stiller took first place in a match of cards after tying the foursome of Peter Connolly, Chris Misuraca, Dennis O’Day and Rock Robinson with a low score of 19-under. Alan Levitz, John O’Connell, Lou Nagy and Sally Prather placed third at 15-under.

The event included lunch, an après golf social, dinner and awards presentation, which featured the distribution of raffle prizes donated by the tournament’s sponsors.

Along with Alera Group, primary sponsors included the Bright Spirit Children’s Foundation; Imperial PFS; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts; CRC Group Wholesale & Specialty; First Insurance Funding, a Wintrust Company; United Healthcare; and the Mass General Brigham Health Plan.

Additional support came from ADP; Ameritas; Amwins; Berkley Industrial Comp; Blais Halpert Tax Partners LLP; Boston Medical Center; Chubb; Cigna; CNA Insurance; Delta Dental of Connecticut; Eastern Alliance; Foa & Son, an Alera Group Company; Guardian; Harrington & McCarthy, LLP; Health Plans, Inc.; Justworks, Larry Croes; Moby Dick Brewing Co.; Motivation Excellence, Inc.; Nationwide; New England Enrollment Strategies; New York Life Group Benefit Solutions; Patra; Philadelphia Insurance Companies; Pixels 360; Point32Health; Resource Pro; RT Specialty; Sica | Fletcher; Sun Life Financial; The Hanovers Insurance Group; Transamerica; Unum; and Zywave.
